JCAHO 2005 NPSGs Include Communicating Critical Test Results

JCAHO released its new 2005 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) on July 20th, 2004.  Communicating Critical Test Results is included in the 2005 goals.  This represents an active endorsement of the importance of the safety concepts behind the Massachusetts Coalition for the Prevention of Medical Errors Communicating Critical Test Results Safe Practice Recommendations.  Hospitals who participated in the Collaborative have already made great strides in identifying the best strategies for shortening their list, identifying and reaching the responsible provider and building reliability into their system to support clinicians in their work.
